On June 17, 2019, representatives from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Devel-opment (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH received a delegation of officials from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and research-ers from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), headed by Mr. Zhao Gang, Chief of the Department of Policy and Planning, CIDCA.
With the objective of in-depth exchange on foreign aid policies, regulations and planning, several meetings were conducted throughout the day, and both sides shared views, knowledge and experiences openly and extensively.
Prof. Dr. Claudia Warning, BMZ’s Director-General for the Middle East; Asia; Latin America; South-Eastern and Eastern Europe presided the meetings with BMZ. Topics covered principles and standards of German Development Cooperation, the legal/regulatory framework (domestic law), instruments and institutional set-up as well as procedures and mechanisms in bilateral cooperation.
GIZ, as an agency implementing development cooperation projects, shared knowledge and experience of results frameworks, capacity development approaches and monitoring on project level, and its decades of experience with other international agencies on bilateral and trilateral cooperation.
During their stay in Germany, the delegation also visited the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (GDI/DIE) and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW).
The Sino-German Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) facilitated the delegation visit. In a follow-up meeting between the CSD and CIDCA in Beijing the Chinese and the German side expressed the interest to strengthen communication, and deepen exchanges and cooperation to jointly promote continuous development of bilateral relations.
