The 8th International Sustainable Industrial Areas (SIA) Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on April 8th-10th, 2019 is being organized by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), The World Bank Group / International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Department of International Development/UK Aid – together with the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) and the Industrial Park Development Cooperation (IPDC).
SIA conferences – initiated and coordinated by the SIA Working Group – bring experts from all over the world together to discuss recent trends, best practices and future development of Sustainable Industrial Areas. Previous SIA conferences took place in China, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Mexico, Morocco and Egypt and each hosted more than 300 guests. The 2019 international SIA conference will address the topics of “Industrial Transformation, Employment Creation and Environmental Innovation” as Ethiopia and other African countries are strongly committed to move forward on those topics. While addressing socio, economic and environmental concerns, Sustainable Industrial Areas are regarded to provide competitive business opportunities that will attract investors, generate higher revenues and prosperity for the host country as well as generate productive employment.
